Biography

Thomas Henry Lythgo (SN 22143) was born at Mt. Egerton and was a 28 year old miner when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 19th 1915. On May 20th 1916 he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Medic and sailed to England. On November 23rd he joined the 3rd Division Trench Mortar Brigade in France and managed to come through the war without major incident. When the war was over, he returned to Australia on the Borda, reached Melbourne on June 27th 1919 and was discharged on August 11th 1919.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Thos. H. Lythgow.
