Biography

John Henry Porter (SN 5425A) was born in Ballarat where he attended Ballarat College. He was 29 years old, an orchardist married to Ethel when he enlisted on July 12th 1915 in Melbourne. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and embarked for the Front in early July 1916 on board the Ayrshire. He arrived in France in October and was promoted to Lance Corporal the following January.. On April 11th 1917 he was killed in action at Bullecourt, has no known grave, and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
