William Herbert McTaggart (SN 2416) born at Ballarat, was a 22 year old carter when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 22nd 1915. He embarked aboard the Osterley on September 29th to serve with the 24th Infantry Battalion. He reached France in March 1916 and served through the war avoiding serious illness or injury. He returned to Australia aboard the Castalia, disembarked at Melbourne on May 30th 1919 and was discharged on July 22nd.
