Biography

James Oliver Galbally (SN 28548) was born in Ballarat and attended the Warrenheip State School, but was employed as an architect in Wellington, New Zealand, when he enlisted on June 26th 1916. He was allocated to the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Rifle Brigade in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. He was killed in action on June 7th, 1917 at Messines Ridge in Belgium. He has no known grave and is remembered on the New Zealand Memorial at the Messines Ridge British Cemetery. He was 35 years of age.
