James Clyde Wilkie (SN 3866) born in Melbourne, was a 24 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 10th 1916. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Warilda on May 25th and sailed to England. In January 1917 he crossed to France where he served with the 2nd Tunnelling Company. In March 1918 he was wounded in action, gassed, and evacuated to England. Aside from this incident he avoided battle wounds, but his record shows multiple absences without leave and a charge of resisting military police. He returned to Australia aboard the Chemnitz, disembarked at Melbourne on September 5th 1919 and was discharged on March 21st 1920.
