Biography

William Alfred Waltho (SN 4785) was born in Prahran and enlisted in Melbourne as a maltster on 3rd February 1916. He was 36 years old and married to Margaret. He was posted to the 24th Infantry Battalion, embarked in early April aboard the Euripides and reached France in September. On May 3rd 1917 he was killed in action at Bullecourt, has no known grave and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Willaim A. Waltho.
