William Jeremiah Caddell, Ballarat-born Cabinet Maker, enlisted as a Private on 2nd of February 1917 as a 20 year old with the 23rd Battalion. On the 28th February 1918 Private Beaton embarked from Melbourne on board the SS Orsova.
On the 10th of October 1917 Private Prout received gun shot wounds in the chest in the Ypres Sector. He returned to Australia on the 15th of February 1918.
