Peter James Beaton (SN 7031) was born in Ballarat and was a 37 year old gardener when he enlisted in Sydney November 5th 1917. He sailed from Melbourne aboard the Nestor on February 28th 1918 and disembarked at Liverpool on April 20th. It was not until after hostilities ceased that he crossed to France in January 1919 to join the 45th Battalion. In March 1919 he was transferred to the Graves Registration Detachment for three months. Before returning to England. He then embarked from England aboard the Argyllshire in early August, reached Melbourne on September 22nd and was discharged on December 11th 1919.
