Percy Daw (SN 142) born in Ballarat, was a 23 year old maltster when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 8th 1915. He embarked on the Ulysses on May 8th and in August he reached Gallipoli to serve with the 22nd Infantry Battalion. Before leaving Gallipoli, he was transferred to the 4th Field Company Engineers. Once back in Egypt he was charged for failing to remove his beard when ordered to do so and fined one day’s pay. In June he was moved to France where in May 1918 he sustained a severe gunshot wound to his right leg which rendered him unfit for active service. He was returned to Australia aboard the Medic, disembarked on October 11th 1918 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, loss of use of right leg’ on April 16th 1920.
