Francis Albert Lewis (SN 3662) born in Ballarat, was a married 35 year old station hand when he enlisted in Sydney on June 29th 1917. He embarked aboard the Euripides on October 31st , first to England and then to France in April 1918 to serve with the 56th Infantry Battalion. In September he suffered shrapnel wounds to his head and after treatment rejoined his unit just two weeks before the Armistice was signed. He returned to Australia on the Friedrichsruh, disembarked on September 4th 1919 and was discharged on October 4th.
