William Albert Constable (SN 4158) born at Burrumbeet, was married 23 year old painter when he enlisted in Melbourne on September 12th 1916. Assigned to the 29th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Port Melbourne on October 21st. He sailed first to England then crossed to France in April 1917. Aside from some minor health issues, he avoided harm until he developed a knee problem in the latter months of 1918. He returned to Australia on the Derbyshire, disembarked on April 22nd 1919 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on May 30th.
