Biography

Percy Joseph Begbie (SN 17082) born in Melbourne, was an 18 year old driver when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 24th 1915. He embarked aboard the Morea on February 20th 1917 and sailed via Bombay to Egypt where he served with the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance. In May 1917 he was disciplined because he ‘grossly ill-used an animal, namely a donkey’ and he had an extended period in hospital in 1918, but he avoided combat wounds. He returned to Australia aboard the Oxfordshire, disembarked at Melbourne on August 13th 1919 and was discharged on September 20th. He also enlisted to serve during World War 2 with a service number of V80411.
