Biography

Alexander Taylor Pearce (SN 1441) was born in Burrumbeet but enlisted in Melbourne on December 6th 1914. The 22 year old, unmarried labourer joined the 14th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on board the and served at Gallipoli until influenza forced his evacuation in October 1915. He was to promoted Sergeant soon after arriving in France in June 1916 but, on August 11th 1916. he was killed in action at Mouquet Farm. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Alex. T. Pearce.
