Biography

Sidney Albert Maidment (SN 12633) was born in Ballarat and educated at Ballarat High School. He enlisted in Melbourne on 11th August 1915 under the name Sidney Ross but re-enlisted under his correct name in November. The 37 year old, unmarried, commercial traveller was assigned to the 3rd Mechanical Transport Company and departed from Melbourne in May 1916. His service was punctuated by a number of disciplinary incidents but no injury or illness until he was admitted to hospital in July 1918 with a large carbuncle on his neck. He died two days later on July 6th 1918 and is buried in St Sever Communal Cemetery, Rouen, France.
