Biography

Eric Oxenham McGregor, (SN 1723) was born in Ballarat, was a single 18 year old clerk when he enlisted in Melbourne on December 28 1915 with the 13th Light Horse Regiment/ 8th Reinforcements. He embarked from Melbourne on board the Maccorquodale on May 6th 1916, arriving in England where he was transferred to the 7th Battalion. On September 15 1916 he proceeded to France where he served until taking ill on September 27 1917. He was admitted to the 39th General Hospital at Havre, France where he stayed for nearly two months. On December 26 1917 he was gassed and evacuated to England where he was admitted to Queen Mary's Military Hospital at Whalley before being discharged and taking furlough. Whilst in England he was again admitted to hospital for two months in March and April and spent the remainder of time in England before embarking for Australia on March 3 1919. He arrived in Melbourne on April 20 and was discharged on June 21 1919.
