Charles Francis Saunders was born in Warrenheip, and enlisted from there on 18th March 1916. He was a labourer, 18 years old, and single. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 6340. On 20th September 1917 he was killed in action at Menin Road. His name is on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

His brother, Pte Ernest Saunders of the 39th Bn also served. He returned to Australia on 15 January 1919. (Tree No. 2322)
