William Joseph Michael Walsh was an 18 year old wool presser when he enlisted as a private on the 18th of May 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th May 1916. On the 20th of April 1918 he was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his right lung. He returned to Australia on August 1st 1918 and was discharged on the 17th of August as medically unfit.
