Biography

Herbert George Pearson was a single 23 year old farmer before enlisting on July 16th 1915 as a private with the 23rd Battalion. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 27th of October 1915.
On March 15th 1916 he was transferred to the 15th Machine Gun Company and acted as Corporal from the 10th of February 1917 to the 18th of March 1918. Herbert then moved on to the 5th Machine Gun Company and acted as the Lance Sergeant from the 19th of May to the 22nd on September 1918, and was then promoted to Sergeant on the 23rd of September.
He returned to Australia on the 16th of May 1919 and was discharged on the 8th of July 1919 due to the termination of his period of enlistment.
