Biography

Walter Campbell (SN 2706) was born in Sebastopol and attended the Sebastopol State School. He was 42 years of age, a miner, and married with 4 children when he enlisted on December 28th 1915, joining the 2nd Tunnelling Company, Australian Mining Corps. He embarked from Melbourne on board the Euripides on April 4th and was serving in France when he was admitted to 10th Casualty Clearing Station with pneumonia in February 1917. His condition rapidly worsened and he died from pleurisy three days later on the February 13th 1917. He is buried in the Lijessenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
