Edward James Eppingstall (SN 119) born in Deniliquin, was working as a 19 year old farmer when he enlisted on February 11th 1915. Assigned to the 23rd Battalion his unit embarked from Melbourne aboard the Euripides on May 10th . He served at Gallipoli until the general evacuation in December. In March 1916 he moved to France where, on July 28th, he was wounded in action. He sustained a serious shrapnel wound to his left ankle which left him with a fractured tibia. He was evacuated to England and once recovered, in May 1917, he was transferred to the Anzac Provost Corps. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Bahia Castillo, reaching Melbourne on June 19th 1920 and was discharged on September 17th.
