Biography

Charles Bedford was born in Geelong, but enlisted in Ballarat on 22nd February 1915. He was 21 at the time of enlistment, unmarried and employed as a butcher in Ballarat. His Regimental No. was 509 and he was posted to 23rd Infantry Battalion. On Gallipoli he reported ill to the Battalion Regimental Aid Post and he was evacuated to the UK Hospital Ship "Formosa". He was diagnosed with tonsillitis, and his condition became worse. On the voyage to UK, when the ship was between Gallipoli and Malta he died on 13th October 1915. He was buried at sea.
