Born in Ballarat, Cecil Hopper was a single 18 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Melbourne, Victoria on the 16th of February 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 10th of May 1915.
On July 27th 1916, Cecil was wounded in action. He was invalided to England on the 31st of July 1916 and admitted to hospital for shell shock.
Cecil returned to Australia on the 29th of January 1918 and was discharged on the 23rd of March 1919.
