Biography

Born in Buln Buln, Victoria and a Bank Teller by Occupation, Stephen William Burton was 25 years and single when enlisted on the 5th of March 1915 in the 8th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 2158. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 'Wandilla' on the 17th of June 1915. On the 8th of August 1915 joined from 6th Reinforcements, ANZAC; on the 17th of October 1915 admitted sick to Hospital- Jaundice, Lemnos; admitted to No. 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Mudros on the 5th of November 1915. On the 5th of November 1915 discharged to Camp, Sarpi and rejoined Battalion, Mudros. On the 16th of November 1915 admitted to hospital and reported dangerously ill, enteric fever, Mudros and on the 8th of February 1916 invalided to Australia, debility, Heliopolis and embarked for Australia change 3 months, entrica, from Suez and was listed as returned to Australia on the 9th of February 1916. Discharged from the 3rd Military District on the 17th of August 1916. Tree No. 415
