John Maher enlisted in Colac, Victoria at the age of 26 on the 11th of March 1915. He had been born in Bungaree, Victoria, was single, and was employed as a Butcher. He volunteered and was stationed with the 21st Battalion, C Company with the Regimental Number 668. He had injuries with Iritis and returned to Australia on the 23rd of September 1918. Tree No. 416.
