Andrew Isles Melville (SN 227) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Black Hill State School. He enlisted in Ballarat on March 15th 1915. He was an 18 year old, unmarried butcher. He joined the 24th Infantry Battalion and served in Egypt and in Britain before crossing to the battlefields of France. Illness forced his evacuation to hospital in England where on August 28th 1918 he died of a perforated stomach ulcer, and is buried in Portsmouth [Milton] Cemetery, UK.
