Biography


Wilfred John Wilson was born in Ballarat and enlisted from Ballarat North as a labourer on 2nd March 1915. He was 35 years old and single. He was sent to the 24th Infantry Battalion with Regimental No. 58. While serving at Gallipoli he became ill with severe bronchitis. He was evacuated to 2nd AGH at Cairo where he was diagnosed as suffering from Valvular disease of the Heart. He was returned to Australia and offered treatment a sanatorium. He refused and requested discharge. He applied for a pension and was accepted. The Repatriation system accepted responsibility for his treatment. He died on 22nd April 1917 and is buried in the Ballarat [New] Cemetery, Australia.
