Biography

James Herbert Evans (SN 618) born at Ballarat, was a 23 year old baker when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 22nd 1915. Assigned to the 24th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Euripides on May 8th and reached Gallipoli just after the August Offensive. After Gallipoli he served in France with the 2nd Division Field Bakery and came through the war without significant incident. He returned to Australia on the Runic, disembarked at Melbourne on June 10th 1919 and was discharged on August 9th.
