Born in Skelmersdale, England, Albert Edward Mayor was a single 20 year old hall porter at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 29th of March 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A62 Wandilla on the 17th of June 1915.
On the 20th of September 1917, Albert was wounded in action. He was admitted on the 26th of September to the Northampton War Hospital in England with gunshot wounds to his shoulder.
Albert returned to Australia on the 13th of February 1918, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 12th of July 1918.
