Frank Peirce (SN 258) was born in Boort and was a carpenter living in Sturt Street, Ballarat when he enlisted in the 24th Battalion on March 11th 1915 at the age of 18. He embarked from Melbourne on board the Euripides on May 10th 1915 and served at Gallipoli through the latter stages of that campaign. On September 7th 1916, when on duty in France, he received a gunshot wound to the chest and was evacuated to England. In August he re-joined his unit in France but was again wounded with a gunshot wound to the left arm two months later, resulting in being admitted to Norfolk War Hospital in England. He returned to Australia aboard the Euripides, reaching Melbourne on March 21st 1918, before being discharged as ‘medically unfit’ on May 23rd 1918.
