Francis (Frank) Morton Atkinson (SN 3303) born at Ballarat, was a married 29 year old station hand when he enlisted at Mildura on Christmas Eve 1914. Attached to the 6th Field Ambulance, he embarked for active service on June 4th and sailed to Egypt. He trained and served in Egypt until he was sent to France in July 1916. In 1917 he trained as a cook and in May 1918 illness forced his evacuation to England. He returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Somerset, disembarked at Melbourne on January 15th 1919 and was discharged on March 9th.
