Biography

Percy Andrew Anderson Bannerman (SN 3309) was a 19 year old saleman from Ligar Street in Ballarat at the time of his enlistment on February 24th 1915. He trained with the 6th Field Ambulance before embarking on the A31 Ajana on June 4th 1915. On August 30th he came ashore at Gallipoli where he served until he was evacuated to hospital at Heliopolis in Egypt, suffering from frost bite. On November 24th 1916 he was transferred to the 12th Field Ambulance in France and he served out the war without major incident. In early 1918 however, he did forfeit five day’s pay after having been absent without leave. He returned to Australia as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Orca, disembarking at Melbourne on March 31st 1919. He died in October 1966 at the age of 70.
