Theophilus Hengist Serjeant was born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1871, he served in the Boer War and during World War One stayed in the United Kingdom and became a Lieutenant-Colonel and was in charge of the Royal Fusiliers.
His son Robert also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
