Biography

Charles Donaldson (SN 118), born in Ballarat, was a 33 year old miner when he enlisted in Sydney on August 18th 1914. Allotted to the 3rd Infantry Battalion, he embarked from Sydney aboard the Euripides on October 20th bound for Egypt then Gallipoli. He was reported ‘missing ‘ around the same time he was promoted to sergeant and then reported wounded in action. He sustained a wound to his left wrist and arm and was evacuated to hospital where it was determined that he should be returned to Australia. He returned home on the Suevic, disembarked on November 11th 1915 and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on March 25th 1916. He also served during World War 2.
