Biography

Charles Donaldson was born in Ballarat and was a Miner by traded when he enlisted in the 3rd Battalion, A Company on 18 August 1914 at the age of 33. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 19 October 1914. . He was part of the Gallipoli landing on April 25th 1915, and on April 29th was reported as missing. He was then found to have been wounded in action, and was evacuated to the Valletta Military Hospital at Malta suffering from a gunshot wound to his left wrist. He was then transferred to hospital in England where it was decided he would be returned to Australia. He left England on the Suevic, and disembarked on October 8th 1915. He was discharged on March 22nd 1916 as æmedically unfit'.
