Born in Ballarat, Leo Albert Hewitt was a single 19 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Queenscliff, Victoria on the 18th of August 1914. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A24 Benalla on the 19th of October 1914.
Leo returned to Australia on the 2nd of December 1918 and was discharged on the 31st of January 1919 due to the termination of his enlistment period.
