William Frederick Wilmott (Capt.) was born in Tasmania where he enlisted on August 30th 1914, at which time he was a 26 year old mechanic and engineer, married to Olive. He joined the 12th Infantry Battalion and embarked on the Geelong from Hobart in October. He took part in the Gallipoli landing of April 25th 1915. After Gallipoli he was transferred to the 52nd Infantry Battalion and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, reaching France in June 1916. He was further promoted to Captain in April 1917 and was wounded in August of that year. He rejoined his unit, once recovered, but on April 25th 1918 he died of wounds received during the liberation of Villers-Bretonneux. He is buried in St Pierre Cemetery, Amiens, France.
