Biography

Alfred Harold Possingham (Captain) was born in South Australia and was a 31 year old member of the permanent Army, married to Emily, when he enlisted in the AIF on August 17th 1914. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and was appointed Adjutant before being promoted to Captain prior to leaving Australia. He sailed from Melbourne with the first Anzac fleet in October on board the Benalla and took part in the Gallipoli landing on April 25th 1915. He was killed in action at Krithia on 8th May 1915, has no known grave, and his name is on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
