Robert Leontine Scott Murphy (SN 892/Lt.) was born at Piggoreet south of Ballarat and was a 36 year old solicitor when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 17th 1914. He embarked aboard the Hororata on October 19th and took part in the Gallipoli landing with the 6th Infantry Battalion. In May he suffered a mild calf wound but was able to rejoin his unit after a month. He was promoted to 2nd lieutenant in August then in September he was evacuated due to illness. After Gallipoli he was moved to France in May 1916 and in July he was wounded again suffering a gunshot wound to his hands, and was unable to rejoin his unit until March 1917. Later in 1917 he spent a short time transferred to the 65th Battalion. On April 5th 1918 he embarked from England aboard the Borda, reached Melbourne on May 30th and on June 13th his appointment was terminated at his own request.
