Stanley West Roots (SN 2065) was born in Melbourne and was a 23 year old fitter and turner when he enlisted in Ballarat on September 10th 1914. He embarked aboard the Berrima on December 22nd and saw action at Gallipoli with the 4th Field Ambulance until enteritis forced his evacuation to Mudros. Much of 1916 was taken up by voyages to Australia and back to England being on duty aboard the Seang Choon. Some health problems became apparent during 1917 with catarrh then tachycardia being diagnosed. He was then returned to Australia aboard the Gaika and was discharged as medically unfit on August 10th 1918.
