Biography

Born in Ballarat, Alfred John Murphy was a single 25 year old driver at the time of his enlistment on the 19th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 10th of November 1915.
On the 10th of May 1916 Alfred was promoted to Bombardier.
He was promoted to Corporal on the 21st of November 1917, and then Sergeant on the 26th of January 1918.
Alfred was awarded the Military Medal on the 17th of June 1919.
He returned to Australia on the 28th of June 1919, and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 22nd of August 1919.
