Frank Lindsay Davies (SN 4381) was born at Woodend and educated at Kyneton Grammar School. He was a 20 year old bank clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on September 15th 1914. Initially he joined the 7th Battalion with which he was serving when he was wounded at Gallipoli and evacuated to Egypt. When he eventually recovered he was transferred to the 23rd Infantry Battalion in France. He died of wounds on November 8th 1916 during the fighting around Gueudecourt, and is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
