Biography

Stanley Chambers (SN 122/958) originally from Newlyn, then Ligar Street Ballarat, attended the Macarthur Street State School and became a carpenter before enlisting as an 18 year old on September 6th 1914. He sailed from Australia on June 21st 1915 on the Uganda, and joined the 8th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli as a reinforcement on September 17th. Just six days later he was wounded, and died the following day, September 24th, 1915. He was just 19 years of age. He is buried a short distance to the north of Anzac Cove at Embarkation Pier Cemetery and commemorated in Ballarat’s New Cemetery on the grave of his parents John and Elizabeth.
