William Henry Crockford (SN399) born in Ballarat was a 25 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on September 21st 1914. Assigned to 9th Light Horse Regiment his unit embarked aboard the Karroo on February 11th 1915. He was wounded in action on Gallipoli in August during the fighting at Hill 60. He received a gunshot wound to the right arm and was transferred to hospital in England. It was decided that he be returned to Australia on the Hospital Transport Themistocles. He disembarked at Melbourne on June 19th 1916. and received his final discharge as 'medically unfit' on November 13th 1916.
