Biography

Thomas Cooper (SN 391) born in Minyip, was a 20 year old striker when he enlisted at Stawell on September 22nd 1914. He embarked aboard the Karoo on February 11th 1915 and served at Gallipoli from early May with the 9th Light Horse Regiment. After the Gallipoli withdrawal he served in the Middle East where he avoided combat wounds but was hospitalised with appendicitis in May 1917. When the fighting ceased, he was assigned to the Graves Registration Unit at Gaza. He returned to Australia aboard the Oxfordshire, disembarked at Melbourne on August 13th 1919 and was discharged on October 12th .
