Biography

John Stanley-Low (SN 363) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on October 2nd 1914, aged 22. Posted to the 9th Light Horse Regiment, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Karroo on February 1st 1915. He came ashore at Gallipoli in May 16th 1915 but a month later he was evacuated to hospital at Lemnos, then Egypt, suffering from rheumatism. His condition was so severe it rendered him unfit to continue on active service, so he was returned to Australia on the Euripides, disembarking at Melbourne on October 1st 1915. He was discharged as ‘medically unfit’ on January 4th 1916.
