Biography

Henry Youle Hind (SN 805) born in Melbourne, was a 19 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 26th 1914. He embarked aboard the Chilka on February 2nd 1915 and sailed to Egypt to serve with the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance. His health was poor and he was returned to Australia aboard the Kyarra and was discharged on November 26th 1915 ‘medically unfit, pleurisy’. In February 1916 he re-enlisted for home service.

His brother Reginald also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Henry J. Hind.
