Henry Roy Harris (SN 5080) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on November 2nd 1914. 19 years old and employed as an ironmoulder, he joined the Light Horse Brigade Train 3 with which he left Melbourne on board the Chilka in February 1915. After training in Egypt and spending a couple of months with the 5th Artillery Brigade, he joined the 14th Field Artillery Brigade in France in January 1917. In August the following year he was wounded in action, suffering multiple gunshot wounds, and was evacuated to England. He arrived back in Australia in January 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on March 30th 1919.
