Sergeant Frank Rowland Pollock, Ballarat-born Joiner, enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion on 18 August 1914. On 25 April 1915 he received a serious gunshot wound to the upper face and jaw. This led to a medial discharge and he was sent back to Australia on 24 June 1916.
