Biography

Stanley Kitchen (SN 906) born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old cabinet maker when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 18th 1915. On May 10th he embarked aboard the Euripides allotted to the 23rd Infantry Battalion. He reached France in March 1916 and in May he was transferred to the 6th Light Trench Mortar Battery. His record indicates a number of discipline issues, but the highlight was that his bravery in combat earned for him a Military Medal. Unfortunately, his service record does not provide any detail of the award. After the war he returned aboard the Port Macquarie, disembarked on May 26th 1919 and was discharged on July 25th. He also enlisted to serve during World War 2.
