Thomas John Flanagan (SN 201) born at Smeaton, was 37 years old when he enlisted in Ballarat on Christmas eve 1914. Assigned to the 13th Light Horse Regiment, he embarked aboard the Persic on May 28th 1915. He commenced service in Egypt but was found to be suffering from osteoarthritis. He was returned to Australia aboard the Aeneas and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on July 3rd 1916.
