Andrew Smith (SN 6686) was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and was a 33 year old slaughterman when he enlisted in Sydney on February 24th 1915. Assigned to the 15th Company Australian Army Service Corps as a driver, he embarked from Brisbane aboard the Medic on June 12th . He reached the battlefields of France in late March 1916 and served through most of the war until eyesight problems caused his return to Australia. He disembarked back in Melbourne on December 29th 1918 and was discharged ‘defective eyesight’ on March 3rd 1919.
